In December of 2010 we made our first visit to Cancun with the gospel. Believers from the assembly that my father saw planted in Puerto Vallarta, asked if we could go and visit relatives in that tourist destination. During that first visit we preached the gospel in Jose's home. He was the only person that showed much interest in the Word of God. Just before we left Cancun, Jose told us he had believed in the Lord Jesus the previous night. Since then, he has been baptized and attends the meetings regularly. His family continues to show a lack of interest in the gospel but we pray that God will save them.
After that first visit, we travelled back to Cancun a number of times to have meetings in Jose's home. The Lord allowed a number of believers to come in December of 2012, to help evangelize and a tent was pitched. The gospel was preached every night for five weeks and approximately three-hundred people listened. We are used to only seeing one or two new people attending a series of meetings here, so were very encouraged with the interest in the Word of God in Cancun.
The Lord blessed the preaching during that series, with salvation. Several left the denominations to attend. The interest in teaching from the Word of God encouraged us to have a meeting Sunday morning, very early on in the work. Listening to several people talk about their religious past and how thankful they were to have found the truth, I was reminded of the tremendous privilege to be associated with the assemblies, due to the sound doctrine we believe and practice.
The meetings were moved from the tent to a house we rented. During the last several months a group of believers have been attending the meetings on a regular basis and showing a willingness to submit to the Word of God. There are about fifteen adults saved and baptized. Some were saved and baptized before we metthem. It is wonderful to hear of people being saved but also to see them baptized and obeying the Lord in other ways. Penelope and I continue to help with a number of different works spread throughout the south of Mexico. We are thankful that, when we have not been able to be in Cancun, other believers have very kindly come to help. Please pray for the work of God and that labourers would be sent.
