As we reflect on our recent visit, it was a real joy to be able to revisit the region around Descalvado, Pirassununga, and Ibate, en route to the north of Brazil to see some of the Sunday school children, saved in the seventies and now engaged in the ministry of teaching the Word and preaching. The work in Manaus has grown and also the little assembly at Cidade de Deus where Jenair and Carla have been labouring faithfully for a number of years. While there, a young man, Noe, who was a friend of our children many years ago in Santarem, was baptized and added to the assembly after so many years. The flooding in Manaus was the worst in living memory. Some 50-80,000 people were left homeless and the schools in the interior, where we had hoped to visit at Bom Jesus, were suspended until the waters of the rivers Solomoes and Rio Negro subside.
In the interior of the Santarem area, some of the halls were flooded and meetings were held in boats. We felt the visit was well worthwhile and it was most encouraging to see quite a number of the young believers taking an active part in the meetings and preaching the gospel.
At present we are preparing Gospel materials tracts and CDs in the Portuguese language, to make another trip to Gort in the South of Ireland where there are still a good number of immigrant Brazilians residing. We would very much value the prayers of the saints that the 'Good Seed' sown will germinate in their hearts and bring them to Christ, for His honour and glory alone.
