Christmas celebrations started the 15th of December. We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with the "witches," who are elderly ladies having been falsely accused of witchcraft and finding refuge at Kalene after having been beaten almost to death, but managed to survive. These elderly ladies live in a comfortable home on our property. They have large fields which they still care for. They have cassava fields, corn, tomatoes, beans, sweet potatoes, sunflowers, etc., and are fairly self-sufficient. We supply them with the extra protein foods on a regular basis: meat, fish, oil, salt, tea, sugar, etc.
Christmas for them is a day of fun. They like playing with balloons, playing games, etc. We then have a word from the Bible and singing of hymns. Part of their Christmas package is a "new outfit," so we dress them, including a new head scarf, shoes, dress, or skirt and top or sweater. They model for us and we give them gifts and treats of homemade cookies, blankets, more of their regular stuff, etc. They are always so happy and grateful!
They supply me regularly with cassava from their fields. Pray for them as only two have professed salvation.
