The Gaborone Assembly, BOTSWANA

In 1982, the assembly of Christians who met in Dundonald Gospel Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland, commended us for full-time service. Presently, our time is spent in gospel work, Bible teaching, and caring for the saints. Please pray for the elders who shepherd the six assemblies in Botswana, the many young believers in fellowship, and the widows who face many challenges.

The Gaborone Assembly held its annual report meeting a few months ago, the first since the pandemic. We could thank God for His many blessings and preservation in the past months. Although most normal assembly activities have resumed, our midweek meetings are now smaller than before. Those who would have attended well in the past are now facing extreme pressure in their employment, often finishing work late at night. Jobs are scarce, and a change of employment is usually uncertain. We continue to pray for these brothers and sisters and seek to encourage them to keep close to the Lord even in their challenging situation.

On a more positive note, we are rejoicing in further blessings in salvation and a clear interest on the part of others. Recently, a lady attending the gospel meeting regularly with her two children made a clear profession of faith in Christ. Another lady has expressed her desire to "get to know God," as she put it. She is not yet clear as to her need as a sinner, but she is undoubtedly seeking. We are cheered to know that the Saviour, the only way to the Father, is also seeking for her. Please pray for her salvation.

Koketso, the university student who was saved last year, was baptized recently. His grandmother, who was present, confessed that she wept—tears of joy! These two believers are the fruit of gospel work carried out many years ago in the village of Ramatlabama. Over nine consecutive winters there, we saw no evidence of blessing, but God’s timing is always best.

Zulu Men’s Bible Week was held this year in Gamalakhe, KwaZulu Natal. It was a privilege to join them and see their keen interest in the Word of God. I first visited the area 50 years ago as a medical student. God has graciously preserved these dear believers.
