We enjoyed our time in Washington State last summer as we celebrated mom and dad's 50th wedding anniversary. Tony & Danelle from Nicaragua and Steve & Brenda from Cyprus made it as well. It was the first time we had all been together in eight years. It was good to spend some time with family and renew fellowship with different Christians.
With our three boys now out of the house: Allan married and living in San Salvador, Bryon finishing his fourth year at Western Washington University, and Derek in his first year at Cascadia Community College, we have entered a new stage in our lives. Over the past few months Patty and I have been trying to visit the six assemblies in the western part of El Salvador. Some of these are small in number and lacking men with gift to be able to teach God's Word; so any time spent with them is an encouragement.
Santa Tecla, where most of our time is spent, continues to grow at a slow pace. In June of last year they had two weeks of gospel meetings and a good number of young people are still attending most of the meetings as a result of that effort. There is a lady, Marta, who professed during those meetings and has been very faithful ever since. She comes to the meetings with her three little girls. Pray for her husband who is not saved but does come off and on. We were encouraged with about 40 parents that attended the year end program for the Sunday School. Classes will resume the middle of February. At least three young men who have been brought up in the Sunday School have asked to be baptized. It is a joy to see these young lives grow and mature spiritually. For anyone working with children, "For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love", Hebrews 6:10
In January, John 3:16 text distribution started in and around the town of Caulotillo in the eastern part of the county. The assembly in Caulotillo was established in the late 90's and has maintained itself over the years with little growth, so we look to the Lord that this effort will be an encouragement to them. There has been a good response to the invitations and distribution of the literature. There are at least 40 young people from different assemblies that have come to help in this effort. During the morning hours they have children meetings and so far the attendance has been on an average of 140. The gospel meetings in the evenings have been well attended as well. We trust that many will come to the Saviour during these meetings. Patty and I wish to thank you for your interests in the Lord's work here in El Salvador.
