Reporting from, Costa Rica

Johnny & Mabel Marin

We hope the Lord has been blessing and keeping you through these interesting times. We have just returned from a trip to El Salvador, where we visited Mabel's family and helped out a bit in the work out there. It was good for Mabel to see her family again after over a year due to COVID.

In El Salvador. We spent a few days with Mabel's sister Fanny and her husband Allan Flett, the oldest son of Kevin and Patty Flett, missionaries in San Salvador. While in the Santa Tecla assembly, we broke bread with them the first Sunday and shared a small encouragement message. We spent a week with Allan and Fanny before heading down to Los Jiotes on the country's eastern side, where Mabel's parents live. That weekend we broke bread with the assembly Mabel grew up in and helped out in the gospel later that evening. Mabel's parents, Wilfredo and Etelinda keep very busy throughout the week. Apart from her dad working a fulltime job, they visit various assemblies throughout the week, helping with the gospel and encouraging them with a devotional or ministry message. However, whenever we come for a visit, they don't hesitate to put us to work. Monday is one of the few days they rest pretty consistently. We visited the Playitas Assembly for their prayer and ministry meeting. The brethren here are always very kind and welcoming. There are very few men in the assembly but a good number of women. They appreciate visitors. There are not too many youths in this assembly. However, one very young consistent, kind, and indispensable young man, Samuel, who is 13 years old, is responsible for driving the big white van and picking up and dropping off the brethren that need a ride to and from meetings.

During the lockdown, many contacts and families were in need. Mabel's parents were doing their best to help with care packages and such. Our sister Hazel Brownlie shared an idea to provide families with baby chickens and the materials to grow them and sell them for a profit. This idea originated during the lockdown. Hazel spoke with brethren in different countries, a brother in Guatemala told her about what they were doing with some families, and that is how God put the idea on her heart.

We are now back in Costa Rica! Our flights got cancelled by the airline multiple times, until March 16th, when we finally returned. In Costa Rica, we had put meetings on pause since my dad was sick with Covid, and a couple of other people had it too, so the group thought it best to take a break and let everyone recover. So many people have been praying in that regards, and we are so thankful for that. My dad is back home, though the damage to his lungs was extensive. He is currently using an oxygen tank to help with his recovery, and each day, he is trying to last a little longer without it. When he is not using the oxygen tank, he is not moving around much, mostly just lying face down in bed. The doctors predict it will take at least another month or so for him to stop using the oxygen tank. We are just thankful he is still alive and can recover.

It's good to be back home, and we are looking forward to starting things up again here as the Lord leads. Thank you for your continued prayer! Hopefully this update was informative enough for you to pray for some of the works going on in El Salvador too.
