Botswana Update

We have many reasons to be thankful here in Botswana and also many reasons to remain prayerful. The following may give cause for both praise and intercession.
In mid-March of last year, we had nightly gospel meetings in our own home in Tlokweng village, but on the 31 March, Botswana registered its first case of Covid-19 and life changed for us all. The strict lockdowns and curfews severely restricted our movements.
However, God is still mighty to save, and we have been encouraged to hear of a young woman, the eldest of four daughters of a couple in fellowship in Gaborone, who trusted Christ at home during the lockdown. She had been long prayed for. A few weeks ago, another young woman came to our gate asking Hazel for gospel literature to give to her friends. She and her twin sister attended the Sunday School in our garden when they were little children. Hazel took the opportunity to ask her if she was saved. She gave a very clear answer as to her faith in Christ. This was wonderful news for us to hear after so many years.
Hazel and our friend and colleague, Joy Griffiths, have kept busy sewing face masks, and these have been distributed not only to the believers but also to many cancer and renal patients and hospital staff. They made up small packs that included a mask, sanitizer, soap, analgesics and Bible reading notes and tracts. These have been widely distributed when conditions have allowed.
We are permitted to meet as an assembly twice a week, but our numbers are restricted. We cannot recommence our regular gospel meetings or 13 weekly Sunday Schools yet. We do miss our many children who came eagerly to hear the Word of God each week. Open-air work continues every week by remaining in the vehicle and using a loudspeaker through the open window.
Botswana has now begun vaccinating the elderly. Some believers have contracted the illness and have recovered, but one dear brother from Francistown was called home to heaven last month. We recall the reassuring words of the apostle Paul in the storm when those all around him were fearful and filled with dread - "Be of good cheer: for I believe God." How good to be able to lean upon the everlasting arms!
