As we look back over the past year, we are glad to report that the Lord has blessed in salvation and spiritual growth as well. Three believers were baptized, and a dear couple returned to the Gaborone assembly after many years away. We all shared in the joy of their restoration.
The Sunday School work continues to grow and in Gaborone and the surrounding area we have 13 different classes with hundreds of children showing a keen interest week by week. We reprinted for the third time an excellent Setswana gospel booklet called Jesu Mmoloki (Jesus the Saviour). Also, some new tracts in both Setswana and English were written and produced.
In the last couple of months, we had a special gospel effort in Gaborone West. The believers supported the meetings well, and some worked hard to bring friends along each evening. In the Bible Class, we have ended the year with a conversational study of 1 Corinthians 15. Each week some young and older brethren were asked to be responsible for a verse each. This worked well, and the contributions were all concise and profitable.
Doing the weekly wash, the hard way!
The time for the weekly Bible study on campus has been changed to seven in the morning. A dedicated little band of young men and women have shown a good interest as we have studied together the teaching concerning the Holy Spirit. Some of these young believers are planning a gospel outreach during the coming holiday period and we are cheered by their zeal and initiative.
This has also been a year of weddings among the believers - four to date with one yet remaining. We do pray that the newly married couples will maintain a bright testimony and be a blessing to many including their family members who are not yet saved. Christian couples can be put under great pressure by their extended families, and they need much wisdom and strength to face up to these challenges.
Finally, you might remember Botswana in a time of crisis as far as our water supply is concerned. The rains have not yet come, and the Gaborone Dam has been empty for many weeks. We go for many days without a drop from the tap; shops are regularly sold out of bottled water, and hardware stores are doing a roaring trade in water pumps and storage tanks in anticipation of better days to come. The heat is intense, and the government has issued health warnings - this in a country used to a desert climate. This morning at 7.30 am it was already 34 degrees!
